Just for all's information This monday night (Xmass eve), burglars entered dutch jeweler Burger in Maastricht, and took about 150 watches said to be worth Euro 1.3 million. 60 of the watches are "unique" and will be very difficult to sell. The juweler said he could only be insured to 250k max. A quick browse on their Chrono24 page shows Rolex (139), 22 Omega's, AD, Cartier, Breitling, IWC etc. As a relative newbie I don't know if there is a central registration or something for stolen watches, but i thought: better said once to many than someone jumping head over heals on a deal to good to be true.
Man that sucks. If you are in doubt when buying in the Netherlands, check this website to see if the serial number is reported stolen: https://english.stopheling.nl/ It's for all valuables, not just watches!
That is a sad story and awful luck, hopefully some of the items will be returned over time. With only 250k of insurance why would you continue to build stock to those levels?
It has to be so stressful for an AD/jeweler to contemplate... Risk management dictates one has to consider so much against these professional criminals.
A full list of all the watches stolen, including their serial numbers, has been published on the Burger website. Please keep an eye out for these: https://www.juwelierburger.com/upload/Bestanden/Stolen watches Burger 25-12-18.pdf
damn. that's really disturbing news. losing €1.3m due to criminality is not a joke especially at this point of the time season. if there is any way that OF can help, it is thru reporting in this forum for awareness and be guided accordingly. sorry to hear that.
