I was just having a conversation with another member of the forum and it turned into the SMP Pro 300 and the way it's value and pricing is going dramatically low. Specially since Craig/Bond was seen wearing the new vintage SMP 300 Mcx and everyone is running to get one.

I love the watch, having the non wave dial in black. For years this was one of the highest sellers on Omega divers, specially since Brosnan's Bond and Casino Royale maintained it on the publics view finder (sad but true). Like many others it is the bracelet that drives me nuts on this model, but I go back and forth with it.

    So: what will happen?

    -Will it get discontinued?
-Will it actually then gain value in about 5 to ten years?
-Will it remain as the entry level diver for Omega?
    -Does anyone care?

I love the watch as well. When choosing my first Omega it was down to the SMP Pro or the Moon watch. It is at a great price point on the used market while still having the ceramic bezel. My hope would be that they put a different bracelet on it and keep it in the lineup. I'm skeptical that is will gain much value compared to some other Omega models but I also don't view my watches as investments. Size wise it is a very wearable watch. I hope they continue it.

If your talking about this style of sm300

It has been around since the early mid nineties so has had an impressive production run and probably prevents it from rising in value due to the sheer volume of sales. There is an exception though the black dialed 2254 which is already a classic in the making. The very early blue dials with tritium markers may gain value though

It is my only Omega (at present), and whether or not it rises in value, I think it is destined to be seen as iconic for its time period, given the Bond connection and the role it has played in raising Omega's place in the public eye.

And I love the bracelet, but I suppose I'm the exception.

I prefer the simpler bracelet on the Planet Oceans but I still like mine! :)

Skeleton hands are nasty. Doubt they will ever become sought after. 2254 on the other hand.. That's the one that got away and the one that is going to have demand, especially for clean ones with applied logos.

But they are original...at least for me having several Divers and watches I only have one with skeleton hands...which does make your point, but it is also interesting as a contrast. That said it is true it is not at par on design with against others. They really tired to make it different. The hands, the bracelet, the Bezel shape.

I guess when you think about it you have a million watches that look like the Rolex Divers, or ilke the Vintage SMP 300, even the AT and Deville's etc. But how many actually look like the SMP Pro?

And I say this fully admitting it is not my favorite, not by far

Maybe I came off a bit rude. I know lots of people like the skeleton 300's but I do think they're a bit more hit or miss. I commend Omega for taking risks. I still believe they won't be as popular in the future, I've seen this through their softer resale value.

I think that for Omega's current strategy, this current entry level has to go, but this not model is far too iconic...
I see it phasing out... And returning with a master coaxial movement... And ceramic wave dial...
It will step up in class
    No more 2500 movements

See I think it serves a secondary role here in also allowing people with smaller wrists an entry into the Seamaster line, as the 2500 movement makes it a very thin 300M diver and there's a mid size ~36mm version for people with even smaller wrists where as the 8500/8400 family won't be able to shrink down quite that small. For @kyle L for instance even the SM300 would be a bit too thick and a bit too wide while a SMP300 would work well on him.

Perhaps ... A pretty good guess IMHO. That said, I wouldn't be too quick to dismiss the 2500D movement ... Mine has maintained lockstep atomic time since the daylight saving time change with no adjustment. I check it once a day against Watchville and it's been within a second dead-on accurate for several weeks now. A terrific movement, no question.

No question... I have several 2500 that have been bullet proof for me... but it is an eta movement, and not commensurate with the current 'party line'...

I would never part with my SMP, and I am hoping it gets the recognition an respect it deserves in the Omega Hierarchy... it has done more for the brand than many models that they have put on pedestals...

and I Also think that it is time for the mods to correct the thread title to "Future of SMP cx".... I keep looking for a hidden 'Feature' but so far coming up empty...initially, I thought that someone discovered a great hidden feature, like a micro-adjustment button that nobody knew about... but no...just a typo...and when writing SMP...the 'pro' afterward is a little superfluous...just the way I am a 'little' pedantic...and probably 'a lot' annoying....

Lol, sorry about the typo. It's.corrected. The pro though is what the watch used to be called. Seamaster Professional 300. It's on the dial
