I posted months ago about IG influencing your collection, and got a mixed bag for responses...I completely understand as it is not for everyone. I would like to share my recent experience selling my Technos. For a no-name 60s skindiver, that watch garnered more attention than anything in my collection...I know, hard to believe, but it is the truth. Every time I would post a pic on IG, I would get a ton of comments and likes, and people would ask if it were for sale. So when it came to sell, I posted that I was selling... Boy oh boy did the offers roll in, and long story short, I met a great collector in Germany who is now the proud owner of the watch. It was as great a transaction as you could ever hope for, and much like selling a watch on OF, I now know who has it, and I will be able to see it on IG in the future. Just wanted to share the story, as the buyer in Germany would most likely not have found the watch had it been listed on OF, TZ, and WUS. Another cool way how a social media platform connects life minded collectors from around the world.
It did...and I listed my BT on there...wife asked why I was selling it. She knows I only sell when I buy, so she is getting closer to figuring out that a grail will arrive soon. Not looking forward to that conversation!
Trust me, she knows your plans well in advance. Women just figure this stuff out and they are way ahead of us.
I use instagram alot. same username there as here! It doesn't really influence my purchases but it does help when I need to move a piece!
Ah so that's where the Technos came from... J bought one of mine too, the Autavia bund. Great guy, was very excited to show pics of the Technos when it landed! IG has made watch collecting a lot more enjoyable in my experience, made a number of new friends!!
J is a great guy, and it was a perfect sale. Very cool to easily get connected to likeminded collectors from around the world.
I find instagram to be a maddening turn off. The minute I am directed to it, I give up. I'm not a Luddite. I can't get past the format.
