This is a fun read, I think anyone that collects anything can find something here to relate to. https://thetakeout.com/inside-black-market-vintage-kool-aid-packet-collectors-1835123510 I am going to start a site to cater to the Kool-Aid community and drive up auction prices. Hodrinkee.com??
Jim Jones is probably rolling in his grave, knowing how rich he would have been, had he stuck around...
this article was so engrossing, and in a way it speaks to what collecting should be. This strange purity of pursuit for objects obscure that brings back a sense of nostalgia and delight. Some interesting take-aways from the article: - $400 (not a typo) for an unopened pack of "Pink Swimmingo" - Market turned upside down when Kool-aid reissued all the main "character flavors" from the 1990s. God, I didn't even know I wanted this stuff, but now I do.
Yeah it was funny how the article implied that reissues in most/all collectibles end up hurting the value of the original...I haven't seen that happen with 2915 Speedmasters yet! Agree, I wish I could have been paying attention back when the vintage watch community was more like the Kool-Aid group currently appears to be...less money, lower stakes, not all rocks have been looked under. Just more pure joy of discovery and way less baggage...
