Out of curiosity, are the indices and hands still luminous on those?

Interestingly the radioactive component (or charger for the luminescent material) is Pm-147 which has a half life of 2.5 years or so. There's almost no energy to be transfered from radioactive decay. The glow you see with 62mas dials is a testament to the proprietary material which held that energy. Interestingly the daini lume holds some charge from other photons (sunlight or uv). It's light decay is much slower than other luminous material of its time. Kind of a precursor to luminova like materials.

My 68 Seiko 6117-8000 has amazing glow still when charged. That explains it.

That's very good to know because I was always wondering why my small crown 62MAS still glows, doubting the authenticity of its hands & indices paint even though they looked right. Thanks for your answer, @bigsom & @Foo2rama

My 1965 small crown 6217-8000 is exactly the same! Lume is original on mine.

It’s mentioned in a few reviews of the 6117-8000 navigator timer actually. That’s one way I verified mine. I can’t remember if it was Fratello or worn and wound that talked about it.
