As a newbie ( with a recently purchased Connie SS piepan 1968) I was wondering what constitutes 'vintage'
Is it any watch prior to 1990 or 2000 or what?
Apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find it within the forum.
    Thanks

Hundreds of views on this, 25 years + but most would say pre Quartz so I go with 1980. Others might have other opinions as there would be vintage Quartz.

Bottom line no set date or time agreement I know of.

I'd like to think vintage is at least older than I am.... but then, one of the motorcycles in the garage qualified for historic plates 13 years ago..... and I bought it new..... so I think I'm in a bit of trouble here

1970 seems to be a year that many go by but nothing written in stone.

"Vintage Quartz" - a term that strikes me akin to "jumbo shrimp". :p I guess there are vintage computers, so a time telling wrist computer chip might be considered vintage if you're nerdy enough.

For my collecting criteria I will go for pre 1970 vintage.
    Many thanks

Some will say Plexi crystal vs. sapphire, Rolex 4 digit refs not 5, 40 years old, etc. I think it depends on how old you are. I'm 42 so anything from the early 80s and older is vintage to me. I work with a gang of 25-30 year olds for whom the 90s are vintage. The edges are pretty blurry.

Vintage means its value increases because of being old.

I would say "ideal vintage" is 1960s but I'll go up to early 1970s if it's really, really, ridiculously cool and definitely not quartz. I think there was a marked drop in quality in the 70s so for me 60s is the high point and I'm a bit wary of anything older because of parts. I wouldn't touch a watch from the 80s with a bargepole.
