Auction photo before After Auction photos before After I can never get this one to photograph nearly as well as it presents. Markers are fiery mirror bright gold and the hands are much brighter. The dial is a pleasing hue. Unexpectedly turned out to be a favorite.
And this is how it showed up, a nice Pilot's watch. I've read and been told one way to roughly date a chronograph is by the start numbers on the scale, 400 would be early. This has a inscription dating to 1942, but who knows when the watch was produced, I would say late 30's to early 40's. Kay gave this to Art. Black dial with gold/copper markers/numerals/track and powered by a Venus cal 170 circa 1942.
Here's a contemporary......not mine, from the Web.....described as from the '30's. And a Breitling from the era that sold for $3500
This is the puzzle from hell! The last letter but one looks like an L, but I'm not sure if the "serif" isn't a reflection or wear to the dial. Could it be NICEUX? It's the only thing that seems to fit, though I can't find this word on the Net in any relevant context.
Nothing on the movement I too saw NICELY or maybe NICERY but nothing fit for an English company, I was thinking another language might be the answer. 17jewels is the only writing and the back
Apparently I did not search very well. A more thorough review of Mikrolisk yielded this entry: wordmark : Nicely manufacturer : G.
