...For me, it’s by far my favorite watch in my collection.

I have seen one in person and it is a beautiful watch. It would be a favorite of mine too, if I had one.

It is much rarer than most seem to believe.

There are 34 of these watches for sale now on chrono24. I didn't check ebay or reddit or elsewhere. No disrespect, but these are not rare watches. Even if Omega only makes 5000 in total, they will not ever be rare. Rare is when you have an unlimited budget and you still can't find either any reference or a nice condition reference.

They are wonderful watches, value considerations aside. Rare? Nope.

The amount of people on Chrono24 wanting to flip their examples for profit have nothing to do with how many total watches that have been produced. Unlimited budget buys you almost anything these days. Name something you can’t buy with an unlimited budget. Go ahead, I’ll wait.

I edited and removed “And please name a rarer modern steel OMEGA watch.” a few came to mind. My mistake.

A 5,000 piece edition is a lot rarer than a 50,000 piece, that's simple math. Your definition of rare is an odd one, essentially meaning only watches made in small numbers qualifying for that distinction. Rarity is a combination of number made and desirability. A one off watch is, by definition, rare, but a 5,000 piece edition that rarely comes to market can also be rare. It's the combination of number and desirability that determines rarity, imo.

There may be 34 steel 321s on Chrono 24 right now, but there are also 842 steel Rolex Daytona's available (116500LN). Sheer number doesn't tell you much about rarity. There are also 17 ST1s and 25 ST2s for sale and we know these were made in 2012 piece editions. Everyone decides what rarity means.

I think desirability impacts price but doesn't determine rarity. Also, not everything rare is desirabile. In my simple mind, if I can go into the marketplace on any given day and find one or more of the same items for sale, it's probably not rare. Rare means rare, not often seen.

These new EWs won't ever be in abundance. And they are difficult to come by. To be one of two people each year to get a call would be amazing. I don’t wish to denigrate the watch or its desirability. But imho, which i stand by, they aren't rare. Neither are steel Daytonas, or ST1s or ST2s or the 1,975 35th edition Apollo-soyuz LE Speedmasters. Perhaps in a few decades.
