    https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Authentic-Lemania-Jumbo-Mens-Watch-C1948-Military-Gift-to-Mr-Winston-Churchill/113171529894Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network

    It is well documented that Sir Winston received a Lemania Gold chronograph after the war during a visit to Switzerland.
    However the Swiss was not so nasty that they gave him this turd:

    A gold plated, budget version of a relatively common watch?
    Perhaps Adolf would have wanted it that way, but....

    And the inscription/dedication is a poorly copied version of the original sold at auction last year. (Unfortunately not to me.)

    And the asking price?!?
    ::facepalm1::

    At least P&P is reasonable.

    I will ask the seller to include the shipping, just to seal the deal.

    Enthusiastic my ::censored::.

    If the "Canton of Vaud" wanted to gift someone with one more watch, after having already gifted a 18k gold chronograph of their finest making a couple of years earlier, would they then think:

    "Ah, we already gave the bastard a nice watch, let's give him something more basic this time......:whistling:
    We have already made a nice inscription on the first watch we gave him, let's have an apprentice copy it (poorly) this time rather than bothering one of our fine craftsmen with the job.::bleh::"

    I invited the seller to not only read this thread, but to join the forum and defend himself.

    Dear all,

    Thank you for all your help everyone - I haven’t had time to read all you comments as I am away at the minute. We bang goes my only fools and horses moment. I am not sure why you all hate me! I brought something in good faith for a lot of money and then listed the item as well as I could with the story that was given to me by the seller in Ludlow. So in short I will keep the watch as a gift to me as it’s a nice watch although very expensive I wish you all well - kind regards J

    Well, it doesn`t hurt to check the provenance twice when you are listing a
    piece with that kind of a asking price::facepalm2::

    Hi.
    Sorry that the watch came out expensive.
    Whoever sold you that watch owes you.
    Dealing with artifacts claimed to have been owned by this or that celebrity, is a dangerous game.

    Too many scoundrels out there.
    In your ebay ad, there was too many unsubstantiated claims, which again automatically raises red flags in our community.

    Personally I’m heavy into collecting Lemania watches, and related information.
    Your watch is a budget version from their range, pimped up by someone with fraudulent intent.
    Good to hear you did not sell it on. That could have caused all kinds of problems.

    If you ever get some oddball watches offered to you, I am sure the community in here would try to be of assistance.
    There are still “gold nuggets” to be found.
    But not this time.

    Cheers

    He didn't decide not to sell it - eBay pulled the listing because of all the reports.
