Let's just say that a quartz watch battery needs to be replaced every 2 years and that the total cost of that would be like $20 a pop.

I buy 10-packs of batteries on Amazon for $7-8. That would hypothetically last me 20 years. The annoying thing about batteries is I swear every watch I touch takes a different size. I have so many damn batteries. I can’t service my own mechanicals… yet. But I’ve already spent about $300 on tools and books and I haven’t even started yet lol. Hopefully someday I can service my own cheaper watches.
