Saw this on eBay uk. Basically it's a mish-mash of parts, with original 1968 transitional dial, case back and inner metal disk along with a NOS 861, new hour / minute / subdial hands à la CK2915 and the sort of mid 60s chrono seconds hand. Obviously as a frankenwatch this wouldn't have much collector value but it's quite nice in its own right. Having said that, I'm no expert. So what I'm asking the wise men here is..

    A) One off piece which would be a "nice to have", albeit with no real collectors value?
    Or
    B) Avoid like the plague?

    Thoughts welcomed!

NOTE: Although this is listed for £10000 he points out that this is an extra listing of the same watch, done just to show extra pics of the back and movement. The figure is that high deliberately so that no one will buy it. The original listing is a regular auction, currently at a snip over £2000...

This one's a laugher. Dial and caseback are the only items of any real value here, and add up to perhaps $3 or $4k US. Problem is he's priced it higher than even a fantastic, all-original, box-and-papers 145.022-68 would get on most days.

No, maybe you didn't read the description. He's not selling for 10k. He already had the watch listed as a normal auction (currently at just over £2000). He put on an extra listing just to show extra photos, with a deliberately inflated BIN amount so that no one would buy it.....

I mean if people buy Watchco Seamasters, I guess there's a demand for this too

It's real value is purely the sum of its parts. Less actually IMO as it's not attractive in its current form so at the very least you'd need to swap in aged service hands.

Because threads are useless without pics as links stop working after a short while.

Yeah, current bid on the watch is about $2600 US. I won't link since it's active, but easy to find. My concern on the dial is that it looks like it may have been re-lumed as well. The lume looks kind of "puffy" for lack of a better term, and kind of thick. I'll leave that determination to the experts, but that would reduce the parts value of the dial I would think.

LOL! Hadn't seen that picture. Guess that's a definite, rather than a maybe.

Hmm. Wouldn't have picked up on that. Thanks guys, for the input. Pity. I do prefer the broad arrow hands to the regular Speedy batons.

They come up. Set an alert in watchrecon and eBay.
