Just visited my old family home which we still own but has been largely unused for 30 years. Found a few old watches and clocks.

Was over the moon about the IWC PD moonphase, then realised it’s quartz ::puke::

But it’s still cool. And in amazing condition - I’m no expert but in my time I’ve not seen lume hold up that well on another vintage watch! It will join the collection and be worn with pride.

The other wristwatches are ladies PD / Orfina.

No idea about the wall clocks...

Woha, just realised the IWC moonphase is worth a good USD 1k - 2k ... not that it matters as family watches can never be sold for sentimental reasons!

I suspect the pictured weight-driven clock is one of those that has the 45 second minute type second hand. That is, the seconds hand shows 45 seconds after running the clock for one minute. I discovered these the hard way, years ago. I serviced one that came with a substitute pendulum leader which I had to replace. In order to get the length of the new leader correct, I shortened it until the seconds hand indicated one minute, in one minute of running. I found that the clock gained 15 minutes in an hour! Took a while to get my head around that one.

I suspect the mantel clock with the marquetry (inlay) on the front could be English. The Ansonia wall clock is, well, American. Apparently missing the bezel and glass, unfortunately. The balloon-style wooden table clock with the marquetry inlay is likely a 30-hour boudoir clock. The sweep seconds hand on the brass one tells me it could be quartz. Nice way to start a collection, all in all.

Is the hinged section barely visible in the image of the Ansonia a bezel that swings aside to wind the clock with a key?
If so is there a crystal present?

    Fascinating, thanks!

Wish I’d managed to come here armed with an iPhone about 20 years ago - all the nice(r) pieces were plundered (“borrowed”) by various family members over time...

Here’s a full pic of the Ansonia, it has crystal and bezel

I’m also just educating myself about the IWC Porsche design. Actually a very interesting watch, with a high-end hybrid movement (c.630) that is both quartz and a 25 jewel mechanical movement, purely for the chronograph, made by Jaeger LC. Attached a borrowed picture of the movement.

I’m aiming to do a write-up in a separate thead at some point

Is that a "Bank Regulator" style?
An aquaintance salvaged an original battery operated bank regular clock from a long condemned bank building , probably boarded up since before WW2.
The clock was in decent condition though its ancient canister styled DC battery packs had burst decades ago.
Always liked that styling. I have a modern plastic replica on one wall. Actually looks pretty good for a cheap decorator item more than 20 years old.

I just checked again. The bezel and glass are there. You had the door wide open for the photo, mand the door hardly shows. That is fortunate, as you would not like to be trying to replace them.

    Ha, that’s cool

The clocks (as opposed to wristwatches) pictured above are all mechanical I think

Yeah, the Regulator style started out as a purely mechanical clock.
The Dry Cell Battery powered versions may have been the first electric clocks. These were popular in Banks and train or bus depots because you could mount them high on the wall without the custodian having to climb a ladder to rewind it.

I noticed a few school house Regulators on ebay, none as old or as nicely made as yours though. Be careful in any restoration work, Some I saw for sale had been ruined by refinishing of the cabinet.
