Ok so I found grandpa's old omega watch, need to know what it's worth, if anything? Was told by the omega boutique here in town that it is a omega sapphett either 1960's or 1970's and is either 480 - 640 caliber, tried to narrow it down and the lady says at least 1967 and 620 caliber. If any one has any info please help and thanks in advance! 1436751562532-350974197.jpg 1436751597776704430796.jpg 14367516684441424296058.jpg 1436751562532-350974197.jpg 1436751597776704430796.jpg 14367516684441424296058.jpg

No it doesn't work. Yes it is engraved on the back. Yes it is missing a part of the clasp.

It looks like a ladies model to me too, even a bit small for a men's watch from the 70s.
There's no interest in this style for the collector and it's not solid gold so no melt down value.
Value would be purely sentimental I'm afraid.
I'd suggest getting it serviced, fixing the bracelet and wearing it in memory of your grandpa.

    Cheers

The Sapphette series was a range of watches for women which had a synthetic sapphire crystal, crisply faceted, and in karat gold cases. To the best of my knowledge, the series ran from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. This watch sure looks to me to be a woman's watch, not a man's, and the case and bracelet are gold filled. The crystal is definitely not of the calibre of crystal used in the Sapphette series. The case back on this watch is marked with a presentation date of 1976, long after the Sapphette series disappeared. How an Omega boutique could estimate the age of a watch engraved with a 1976 presentation date as being '60s vintage completely eludes me.

I could engrave my 1883 pocket watch with any date I want, doesn't make it any less 1883.

I'm actually more intrigued about why grandpa was presented with, what appears to be, a woman's watch.

I think possibly in this case the value of the box will be around the same as that of the watch.

Since it's just initials, I choose to believe that the poster made a mistake and it is indeed grandma's watch.

Based on what the OP said, the "Omega boutique" also called this watch a Sapphette! Which it is NOT. The "Omega boutique" may have estimated the 1960s era because that was the era of the Sapphette series. They were wrong on both counts. The Sapphette series was long gone by 1976! I stand by what I said! Prove me wrong!

I actually just assumed this thread was a variation on the Uncle Watch theme and that this was just an eBay seller looking for a free valuation.

No I am not ebay selling it, I have no clue what it's worth If anything! And I am positive that my grandfather David Prime Chandler wore the watch! Just want to get some correct accurate information about the watch, that is all! It has no sentimental value to me. I just wanna know what it is, I have heard of the brand and no that it is a good one, but nothing else.

I live in San Antonio Texas and took it to the omega boutique here at the la cantera shops and was given the information, it has no sentimental value to me, and I am not looking to ebay sell it or anything like that, just want to get some good accurate information about the watch, so that I know what to do with it. Put it up for the grandkids or I have no idea, any and all information is helpful

The only way for us to provide more accurate information is to show some clear pics of the inside of the caseback and a shot of the movement.
Removing the caseback on this should be fairly easy by using a Stanley knife blade and a smooth table knife.

If you have no technical skills, a watchmaker should be able to help you.

I'd like to get to the bottom of this puzzle.

PS: Love the city area in San Antonio with the river/canal going through it. Visited there on my Texas Road Trip a few years ago.
