I've researched this one and cannot find anything remotely similar. I was going to sell it but pulled the sale after an astute forum member advised me of his concerns regarding originality. He made good sense: i.e stylistically the dial looks more like something from the 40's, the case more like the 60's or 70's. And the hands don't look like they should be on a diver...And I have never been able to find anything comparable online.

Upon close inspection the dial does not appear to be a re-do....or if it is, it is of very high quality.

So what the hell is this thing?! Has anyone ever seen a dial that looks anything like this?

Or just an interesting franken with a pro-grade redial?

Cheers
Todd

p.s. this is the message I got from Fortis when I sent them pictures:

Dear Todd
Thank you for your message.
This model is an old watch, which was produced by the previous company. Unfortunately, we have limited access to their archives. For this reason, we can not confirm whether this model really existed, and we also can not give you more information about it.
On the other hand, we advise you not to buy such old watches. The possibility is very high that the watches need a service or parts need to be replaced. Unfortunately, there are no more spare parts for them and therefore we could not repair the watches.
Thank you for your understanding.
Best wishes

I can't provide much insight...only an observation that the movement holding ring is quite interesting... You might anticipate that the four prongs would potentially interfere with the automatic rotor?

Nope. Clearance is good so never been an issue.

Very interesting watch. The dial looks original to my eye as well, though I wonder about the type of lume. Doubtful that a re-dialer would include FAB SUISSE.

The hands do appear inconsistent, especially in condition.

My favorite element is the concave bezel. Definitely uncommon.

For comparison, I have owned this Fortis for years. Slightly different case, and flat bezel.

The lume is a bit unusual. Almost a pebbly-slight gloss. Weak glow about 15 seconds after blacklight. Not radioactive...

And wondering if someone did not find the bezel and stick it on after production.

Also note that minute markers at 43 and 47 are shorter than the rest. All of the other minute markers are of equal size. But still too consistent for even a good redialer...

Interesting piece, dial is kind of a mash up of a sub and "california dial", but not quite.

Never seen anything like it.

I know...what makes it intriguing is that it looks like an OEM dial...
