Didn't have a new 'Eye Candy' thread for a while now, and since I got this piece from a Friend to try it out for a few weeks I might just as well take some shots of it. It really is one of the tougher chronos out there, I can see why the Russians choose it for their space missions. Even though is packed with humorous amount information on the dial, for it's primary functions (time and chrono) it's really readable. Oh and take a look at the dial and chrono hands under UV light (in ready room during DEFCON or in the cockpit ), that's what I call readability. Plus, 200m WR rating for a chrono with no screw down crown ... you gotta give Fortis a credit for that! So here are some shots, hope you dig them
Happy to share my ISS Limited Edition B-42, love the fact the AR glass is so good there is no distortion of dial at any angle. In fact it looks like there is no glass at all
Hi there, like Your watches, they have a real tool character! While not a cosmonaut nor a chronograph, my Fortis pilot from the 1980s say “hello”! It is the earlier version with mineral glas crystals on top and bottom. I have it from new since the 1980s and it’s well worn!
For the ISS version LE they deleted/replaced the 24hr indicator !? On ISS there is a sunrise every 90 minutes. Cosmonaut Gennady Padalka, who spent a record 879 days on ISS, saw over 14,000 sunrises and sunsets. If there’s anyone that could use a 24hr indicator, it’s cosmonauts on ISS. Any info on what the 30min totalizer is supposed to relate to, relevant to an ISS LE?
incredible shots, thank you for sharing. correct me if I’m wrong, but before the Fortis I believe the cosmonauts were first introduced to the Lemania 5100-based movement in the Omega caliber 1045 Speedmaster Mark V (or 4.5?) I hope/bet @SpeedyPhill will be along to inject a timeline or two
Was always a fan of Fortis up until the latest revisions under the new company leadership. Lost their magic to me. But I love my flieger chronograph and have been lusting after a cosmonaut for a while. Great shots!
Great pics @Nono01 . I luv how these models manage to be highly legible, yet so information packed. I also have the L-5100 powered variant like @ewand . It's one of my favorite dials for that movement because the B42's generous size allowed the sub-dials to be designed a bit larger and fill up the dial more. So there's less gap between the sub-dials than any other L-5100 model I know of. Here next to a 376.0822 Speedmaster, which is still a pretty big model. If you look at the 12 and 9 o'clock sub-dials, the space difference between them is noticeable. YaY!
The last time we saw a FORTIS chronograph in a crew photo was in 2021 for the Soyuz MS-19 crew (remember actress Yulia Persild was an Amabassador for RADO watches ) .
nice looking Fortis watches. And, very nice pix @Nono01 .... (just like Batman & Speedy candy threads )
Very interesting comparison. I am quite familiar with the ref. 376.0822 Speedy, which I consider to have the most legible dial of all the Lemania 5100 powered chronographs, and I agree that the Fortis is almost as good thanks the the added real estate. It is a much better dial in any case than on the previous Official Cosmonauts model, whose flat appearance ended up irritating me (despite the rest of the watch being great).
