I might be opening myself up to ridicule here but I haven't come across this before.

I expect to see 'Swiss Made' on radium dials, with at least one 'T' usually added to those with tritium.

However, in my daily browsing I came across this. 'Ra Swiss Made R'. Have I missed a commonly seen feature here or is this unusual? I understand the T's are to show the presence of tritium (and thus the absence of the more dangerous radium) so it doesn't really make sense to hype the fact that radium is present. Was it still being touted as a wonder material in the late 50's/early 60's leading to some dials to be marked in this way?

Yes, it was used like this in some (mostly dive) watches in the late '50s.

In fact, some even had specific references to the amount of Radium used.

I have seen that on other watches too. It tells you that here is Radium ;)

There was a thread recently here where the Swiss regulation for marking of radioactive substances was discussed and this case of Ra, R, etc... came up.
