further evidence the vintage speedy market is ON FIRE! At these prices, we are reaching "bubble" levels.
So according to this my '68 is worth more in pieces than as a watch. Have others, who have been at this longer than I, seen this price flux happen before?
Not much. See me later I'll sort you out, maybe a bag of carrots or something, but really, I'm doing you a favour.
@Spacefruit, do you think this may have just been a case of invested bidders? Similar ones have sold on ebay for less over the last few months, though this one probably was one of the better ones of late. Some of the ones rominaXXXX was selling were at least comparable to this one, and none of those went as high. I think this might be an outlier (but I'm not going to list one of mine to see!)
Have to guess the buyer was from the UK. Isn't is true that UK items (which this was) sell at a premium to UK buyers so as to avoid any customs duty?
It's a shame because I can imagine many lovely '69's getting bought simply for their bezel, to put on an earlier reference, then being resold with a replacement. Edit: just read Williams blog and this is touched on there.
It scares me because I'm in the market for all original "survivor" and I hope that doesn't happen and also prices doing skyrocket
