For a number of months, I've contemplated getting my hands on the perforated black leather strap of the new CK2998 for my FOIS. I just got it from my AD, so let's just get right to the point - this combination is AWESOME!

I do wonder about its durability as it seems less substantial than the OEM strap, but for now, I revel in its comfort. It literally just melded to my wrist the second I put it on.

    Cheers,

    Alex

Looks really good. Surprising just how much difference a change in strap can make

I think this kind of strap looks good on all Speedmasters.

I'm generally not a great fan for perforated straps but that looks good.

The reason for the less-substantial feeling is that the inner padding is made from a mid-density foam which while lighter than leather is a bit softer, has more color choices and is easier to poke precise holes through. The inner and outer lining is still leather, but the padding area is the foam. The Speedy Master Coax Racing also uses a similar construction process.

Not sure how durable the strap will be in the long term but it should outlast all-leather or corfam rallye straps since the foam isn't as reactive to water, sweat and skin oils. And it's definitely softer than leather, so it should be comfortable right out of the gate as opposed to taking time to break in.
