As I strapped on my FOIS last night (SMPc went into the box for a power reserve test), I was instantly reminded as to why it remains my favorite of all my watches. Being the space nut that I am, it's hardly surprising. No matter what new shiny dial comes along, my FOIS is going nowhere. It truly is my heirloom wristwatch. ::love::

And that's how this >>VIDEO<< came to be. grabbing and splicing footage from various space missions that have occurred over the last fifty'ish years, I came up with little homage. Forgive any inconsistencies, errors, and the general hokeyness of it all. :p

    Cheers,

    Alex

nicely done indeed, we now know that Deke Slayton also bought an Omega Speedmaster during the Mercury program before he was taken off active flight duty and became head of the astronaut office...
Moreover I was amazed to see that Schirra wore his Speedmaster CK2998-4 during SAR - Search and Rescue water training

I can't imagine it wasn't mandatory to wear all your gear on training such as this.

Hey, it's waterproof to 50 meters! Not saying I would dive with it, but I'm sure that the 2998 could stand up to getting dunked in water a little bit... despite the popular WIS / WUS belief that even washing your hands requires a 200m depth rating nowadays.

Here's another May 1962 photo clearly showing the Omega Speedmaster CK2998-4 worn during water egress training by Wally Schirra, seen together with his backup Leroy "Gordo" Cooper on the left...
