It appears the crown on this watch has a slimmer profile than the usual Moonwatch. My assumption is that this was done because there are no crown guards, and thus the crown doesn't need to protrude out as far, and they thought it would look better. Yet, original crowns on flat-lug Speedmasters that were used on the later models seem very close in dimension, and never looked too far out to my eye.

So two questions... those that own these: compared to your Moonwatch, does the crown feel noticeably slimmer whilst winding, i.e., not as easy or nice to wind (if you're into that sort of tactile thing, which makes a manual wind watch fun). And secondly, I'm guessing the crown could be replaced with a generic Moonwatch crown, since they have the same movement? Thanks.

About half way down you can find the close up of the crowns side by side.

 

I find the chunkier crown on the Moonwatch gives my fingers a slightly better grip and is a tad easier to wind....

and, we need pics on all threads!

 

I though maybe the FOIS crown was just thicker, but is it a larger diameter too?

 

Thinner crown was actually done because it's historically accurate for the CK2998 ref that Wally Schirra wore which was copied for the FOIS, not because it doesn't have crown guards or anything like that. Fully detailed in Moonwatch Only.
