Hi OF,
I know there are experts in russian space watches here... maybe they could give their feelings about that back...:
Could it be what it seems to be?... 😲

(For sale on a well known french watch forum right now)

Worn crown on a nos modern case? Not smelling that good. (older chromed cases have less pronounced machining marks behind the lugs, 1990s ones look like that). Also the engraving looks a bit like those from a laser. Not stamped like factory backs in the 80s, not hand engraved either.

And from the front, how does it look?

That’s an interesting find. @SpeedyPhill would be the resident cosmonaut expert and I’m sure will chime in soon with a picture or two.

The watch is engraved for Anatoly Berezovoy who commanded Soyuz T-5, the first crew onboard Salyut 7. You see Salyut 7 engraved as well as 211 days is space the number of days spent onboard Salyut 7.

Do you happen to have picture of the watch face? Is it white? If so, maybe the one strapped to his left arm on the white strap.

White watch face?

Am I missing something? Is the watch face/dial on his left upper arm not white or maybe silver? It appears to have a similar case profile and chronograph pushers seen on the engraved watch.

Why do you edit your posts?

Since the 211 days wouldn't have been known in advance, my guess is that this might be one of seven watches taken into space (this being number four.) Each were engraved back on Earth and then sold or given to friends.

Having the same dial as the photo would help support the idea, although not be definitive proof.

Usually there is a paper trail for a space watch. Absent that it is risky to assume a watch was in space. Sometimes there is still someone around who was involved with getting them in space or engraving, who can vouch for the project, which helps.

Why do you edit your posts?

Are you seriously asking why I would edit a post? To make them more accurate and readable.

The only reason I think you were questioning my post was because I referred to the dial as a face (your snarky emoji) or the color as white and it could possibly be silver. I added both options.

@spacemission - Edited to correct spelling error.

@pdxleaf I think you are correct here.

Well, the date ring is not from a watch made in the early 1980s... It has the later more common thin font. I bet the movement is from the 1990s.

😒

Okay... Thanks for your rich comments!!
Anyway, this "CCCP" is very attractive to me...
Even yes or not flown, a real piece of geopolitical and space history...
Really a nice looking watch.

These 3133 and 31659 chronos are nice, I prefer the military version which is cased in stainless steel. Civilian versions have a chrome case.

For some reason l grew out of wearing Russian watches recently...

I agree. Flown or not, the rich history of the Poljot watch used by cosmonauts and the case back make the watch a pretty cool conversation piece if you can get it.

Definitely NOT a 1982 Poljot (see the chart below; the wristwatch on sale would date to 1986 and onward). The one worn by Berezovoi is shown below. Pictures from (WUS) Whatchuseek forum, I believe.

Yeah same for me too, seemed to all start almost 13 months ago at a certain date in 2022, illogical as it may seem.

Some time in the future I will be picking up a couple of the chronographs.

Ukraine only gained independence in 1991. It is a very complex ‘state’ of affairs which includes the breakup of the Union Soviet Socialist Republics. A lot of these vintage space watches have a strong pedigree which dates back to a country, system and situation which no longer exists. Ultimately many of the gains made in the Space race were driven by the Cold War and missile technologies plus let’s not forget Nazi contributions to NASA technology. I still think Alexei Leonov was cool and very brave / the future should not change the past.

Do some homework first! 😉 Nice chronos of this type are still affordable, but lots of rotten Franken and fake dials/handsets.
