Flip PO for AT?

Had my 43.5mm 8900 PO for a few months but I do find it a bit too thick and heavy and also a little blingy. Am considering flipping it for a 41mm AT in black on a rubber strap and been offered 20% off at my AD.

What are people's thoughts on this? Would wear it casually (on rubber or nato), smart (work, weddings etc) and also on the beach or by the pool. Am I mad? Is the AT as shiny as a PO?

Having a real hard time making a decision. Thanks all.

My opinion has always been if you start finding problems with a watch, it’s not a good fit for you and you should move on. We often make the mistake of buying watches because everyone else is saying how great they are or they look great in pictures, but once on the wrist it doesn’t speak to us.

sounds to me you are in this boat. In that case, try the AT and see if it work for you better.

What I think for my own use is of no consequence (the PO is more rugged, the AT is smarter) but I'm sure that the Op's AD will be as obliging as possible and if, after all, you find that you prefer the PO, you can always flip back.

There's no question of owning them both for a few days?

I should be able to yes but my AD says the AT is a 2-3 week wait. Seems no one around here has the black AT on rubber strap. I have to sell the PO - I cannot justify having both.

I have maybe too much watches, but my two preferred are the AT 41 and the PO 8500 42.

Due to the thickness of the PO I am using more the AT, besides its lovely aesthetics it is very comfortable.

I have the omega leather blue strap and an omega nato, I switch them, nato for holidays or sailing.

Advice: if your wrist is 7” or above go with the 41 without doubt, if it is less try the 38, the face of these watches is really big.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. My PO 8900 that I bought new in March 2021 has only got a week of wrist time because I find it too thick. I already have 2 SMP diver 300m watches so I plan on flipping the PO for a AT. I feel the AT is more versatile than the PO. My only gripe with the AT is the lack of micro-adjustability for the bracelet and I usually like to buy watches with the bracelet. I might have to opt for the strap this time.

Yep I am going to go with the rubber strap from the AD and then order a Nato as well along with a leather strap from a quality 3rd party supplier.

Sounds like you have already made up your mind.

Did you try it on first or did you purchase online?

39.5 Planet Ocean is also one to consider.

Don’t do it….

All new watches are blingy try the PO on a nice sailcloth strap.

Can you explain the flip….You sell to your AD and get 20% off a AT ??

The AT can be used in almost all settings with the appropriate strap. It's a jack of all trades, but not necessarily perfect for any one setting. That's it purpose. The PO however is a purpose built dive watch. If you need the watch to go with more than a t-shirt or bathing suit, get the aqua terra as you can still easily swim with it.

Maybe 'flip' is the wrong word. I would have to sell the PO on eBay or Chrono and I buy the AT from the AD at 20% discount. I have bought a few watches from the AD before.

Tried it on of course. Actually this is my 2nd PO 8900. Unfortunately it took 2 tries to realize it's just too thick

For me you always need a diver. As you mention beach and pool it sounds like a diver has a use.

Maybe you just need another watch for other times. There is no one watch for everything…..That’s why all of us here have so many 😉

For casual swimming the AT should work though. I don't swim any deeper than about 2 metres anyway 😀

AT will be a good watch to swim with take to the beach.

Not knowing anything about your age, job, leisure activities it’s really up to you. Being 50 and had many watches over the years I have always had a diver..Always. And always grabbed a diver to wear if swimming was happening.

Remembering it may just be a simple scratch against the edge of the pool or pool wall I know I would prefer it with a diver that has a bezel to take the damage than a AT

I tried some ATs on the other day. The bracelet is a bit blingy, and the 38 wears larger on the bracelet than on leather or rubber

Don't like the bracelet much either - too shiny and scratchable. Clasp has no micro adjustment either. Really wish Omega would update the clasp and brush the bracelet more.
