Just wanted to see what people’s thoughts might be.... I’ve wanted an Explorer 1 for a long time. I know they’re not especially difficult to track down and not a rare bird. I just love the simplicity of the watch. My local AD called me to say that they’ve got one arrived, do I want it. Realistically the only way I can do it is to sell something else which would have to be either my Ultraman or ST1. Would you do it?
No, nothing else that I could sell that would cover the £5k for the Explorer. Why keep Ultraman and not ST1?
I based on my own preference I grew up watching ultraman and Im a big fan of that show. I even skipped school and pretend that Im sick so I can watch it. Lol. Anyways thats just me of course its up to you what floats your boat GO for IT! As long as you’re happy thats what all matters we are here to just give an advice
Okkk such a good question Im considering selling my rail master 60th Anniversary edition for the Rolex Milgauss black dial (not green crystal)
I wouldn’t for the milgauss but that’s just me. For the explorer I would switch out the ultraman and keep the speedy Tuesday 1.
Explorer 1 is very different from ST1 and Ultraman. Personally the Exp1 does nothing for me and I like both ST’s so I wouldn’t sell. I think you’ll always be able to pick up the Exp1 in the future at similar price as today...
214270 39mm. The latest incarnation with the longer hands and luminous 3,6 & 9. Nothing rare about it.
Maybe keep the speedy then it’s a little more special and hard to come by. However if you just don’t like one of the Speedmaster sand don’t wear it then it’s time to sell it and get something you would wear like this explorer.
Thanks for the feedback guys. I checked out the Explorer 1 and, tbh, I didn’t love it as much in the metal as I’d expected, so I passed. I did rather fall for a 36mm OP with a 3,6,9 dial. Started saving for a s/h 114270 or possibly a 14270. Keeping both ST’s for the time being
I realize you don’t even want it now but if I was In the same situation I would take a mini-vacation and buy one on the second hand market. You could get a full set in great shape for $5400. If I lived in the UK I would do all my watch shopping overseas
