    Hello forum!
I have decided to wear my flighty on a strap because my new mark ii has the same style bracet and I want to change it up. As most of you know the lug shape makes it difficult for leather straps. I made the mistake of getting quick change bars on my current strap and the release lever rubs on the case!

What’s the ideal diameter spring bars and type would you all recommend?

    Thank you for your time!

I think I’m going to go with ofrei 20mm 1.5 mm double flange. The narrower bar should give the strap more clearance.

How exactly do you expect a 20mm bar to work on a case that has a 22mm lug width?

Well it should give the strap (plenty) more clearance

The Flightmaster is a heavy watch, and personally I think using generic 1.5 mm spring bars is going to be a bad idea. Likely the tips of those bars will be quite a bit smaller than the holes in the lugs. I would use some genuine 1.8 mm Omega bars, for straps.

One thing to take into consideration is that a thick strap might get indentions on the upper side. Depending on how wide your wrists are and the thickness of the strap - the "hooded" lugs dig into the leather. 10 years ago and for a very short while I used my Flightmaster on a Hirsch racing strap - and got this problem. That strap was about 5-6 mm thick at the watch end. Destroyed the strap in a couple of weeks.

Very helpful posts by @Archer and @styggpyggeno1

I was going to suggest maybe returning the flightmaster to the bracelet and putting the Mark II on a leather strap for the change you require.
But is your new Mark II "the NEW Mark II" or a "new to you 'old' Mark II"?

I'd still like to see a wrist shot of your flightmaster on the brown strap before you change it
Sorry if that's already in the other thread and I'm just being lazy.

@Archer, @styggpyggeno1 thanks! I’ll get some Omega spring bars too at 1.8 and compare. I ordered an expensive Joseph Bonnie strap and I’m unsure of the thickness. It doesn’t look super thick... I couldn’t find a racing style strap that looked nearly as good besides the HODINKEE one but they only go up to 20 mm. @Emeister here is he photo you requested!

    Thanks @Fordex
Both lovely watches. That MKII really pops. ::love::

To be totally honest I do personally think these are both bracelet watches. The bracelets on these just blend into the case and hooded lugs so well and leave the eye to be drawn to the gorgeous dial and hands without distraction.
Good luck with the strap hunt though. Plenty of fun to be had in experimenting.
If you do find that winning combination and ever think about moving on the flighty bracelet then please flick me a pm ;) I've got a project waiting for one.

I used to feel the same way about the flighty being a bracelet watch only. My wrists are only a bit over 7 inches so the strap doesn’t really show much when I wear the flighty. Apparently they sold the flighty without a bracelet back in the day!

I have worn my flightmaster on a grey leather NATO quite a bit and the thiner leather of the NATO fits nicely through the hooded lugs. I can't find a pic of it right now sorry. I also play arround with NASA straps as a bit of a fun. Here are pics of that combo. Just a tip, 22mm x 1.5mm spring bars have worked fine for me. If you go a thicker spring bar it will take up more room inside the hooded lug and therefore require a thiner strap.

Nice looking Flightmaster @ZebKing . Has the case been refinished or is that original finish?

I used the 1.5 mm thick 22 mm spring bar with my fancy JB strap I think it looks great! @ZebKing your flighty looks amazing! Thanks for everyone who commented I know a spring bar question is a bit silly but the unique case of the Flightmaster I thought warranted the forums advice. :)
