Flightmaster 6.8" wrist? Pics? Advice?

Hi -

So I've got a line on a well preserved flightmaster. I've always been interested in the wonderful complex chaos of this watch. I was thinking of picking it up, but I might need to move quickly. I have a flat 6.8" wrist that easily wears a seedy and a seamaster w/room to spare. I do wear a 44mm Panerai luminor at times, but that's pushing the boundaries for me.

Anyone have any pics or advice on the fit of these beauties from the 70s?

145.013 or 145.026 or 145.036? It matters as they are not all the same in dimension.

It depends on your wrist shape too. The 145.013 case is less beefy than the other two references so it might fit a smaller wrist better. My left wrist is a bit over 7" and I have a 145.036 that looks pretty big on me.

Thanks so much!! I had no idea the cases were different sizes! I'll check.

Hi - It's a #145.026 ...how does that differ in sizes? I'll try the googling.

As far as I know the .026 and .036 cases are very similar. The way the crystal sits in the cases are different. If you have a flat wrist you can get away with wearing a bigger watch. My wrist isn't very flat.

My wrist is pretty flat .... so I might go see the thing this week....

We can share all the pictures and measurements in the world - the flightmaster’s need to be tried on, as they are not the right shape for all wrists, and each case type of the three wears differently.

Heading over at lunch time, today!

Alas, it just didn’t make it on my wrist. The very edges of the cushion case lifted into the air over the flat surface of my wrist. It was a spectacular piece from a wonderful shop, but it just wasn’t right for me…..

Sorry, it happens. There are some 43mm watches I really like with more traditional cases that can't pull off. You saved some money at least!

It's true. As I type this I'm wearing a 44m Panerai 915. It's a big watch to be sure, but, since it's lugs curve downward as soon as they leave the case, it snugs up to my just under 7" wrist. It is weirdly comfortable ( and a kick to wear).

Given my Panerai habits, it might sound strange that I once declined a 43mm Sea Dweller - ticking off an AD - because as soon as it went on my wrist, it just had gaps. This is part of the reason I love my Seamasters 300Ms - the flat portion of the watches' underside, before it starts to curve, is almost identical to the flat portion of my own wrist, ...hence...it melts onto it. Omega's been clever in shaping their cases. Rolex and Tudor, for instance, are still using "plank style" architecture.

The flightmaster is super cool, but the point where the OEM bracelet articulated downward was right where my wrist bends, leaving these little sharp "wings" of the cusion case sticking out.

....sigh....

Well, we can still enjoy watches we don't own (fortunately for me!) Have a happy Hump Day.

I have a wrist even thinner than yours, 6.5"/6.6", but I enjoy a lot wearing my 145.026
Does it wear big? Who cares, I love it! 😁

Thank you!
It is indeed. I got it from a friend who in turn had had it from a retired Alitalia pilot.
