So the week before Christmas my family, along with my wife's parents and her sister and brother-in-law rented a house on Air BnB - we had a great time! While walking around downtown Flagstaff we visited their active train station (which I unfortunately took no pictures of, so the one below is stolen from the internet).

When we went inside they have this whole setup to commemorate Flagstaff's role in the Apollo moon landings. I haven't researched what that role might be, to be honest. But my kids and I had fun with it:

Buzz and I are wearing similar watches too:

Isn’t the desert near flagstaff wear they faked the landing? ;)

In all seriousness there are 2 large craters in the desert near there. They did a lot of geology training and movement with suit training there to prepare.

    Yep: https://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-lunar-flagstaff-20180701-story.html

One small quibble - that part of Arizona isn't a desert. Flagstaff is mostly pine forest - it's quite a change from where I live in the Phoenix area.

Flagstaff is a great place, especially the Lowell observatory. Unfortunately the night we were there was too cloudy to see anything through the scopes but during the day we did get to look at the solar flares through a scope with the protective lenses.

Meteor crater is cool too, although I did spend the whole day singing Eagles songs since it is on the road to Winslow :) We have done several trips through this area and always find something exciting to do.
