Hi all, never owned a watch, pretty set on getting a vintage Omega. Would appreciate all your experience and advice on purchasing one from ebay. Been eyeing these two pieces: (1) http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-OME...193554?hash=item33d2c0f6d2:g:to8AAOSwYS9ZZkriPurchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network (2) http://www.ebay.com/itm/5x-signed-v...46dd024&pid=100009&rk=2&rkt=2&sd=222579193554Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network Could anyone comment on its authenticity and quality? Buy a watch on Omega Forum. You are new, don't know shit, and will most likely buy a royal piece of crap on ebay. Learn on here first, but if you are impatient, but a watch on the Sales Forum and call it a day
(1) Badly corroded case, re-dial, movement looks like it came from a parts bin. (2) Much better watch, good case, nice clean movement, original dial.
Second watch has been discussed here before. Please search out the eBay link. Anyway, my advice to noobies is not to buy anything for six months. Spend that time going on eBay, looking at watches you might like, putting them in your "want list" and observing how bidding is done. Understand that eBay is more of a psych game than you think. People sometimes throw in high bids early to try to scare other off, put in "ladder bids" and all sorts of other games. Ask lots of questions here, observe sales prices here, on eBay and on other fourms if possible. Gather as much knowledge as you can. You'll know when you are ready. Clearly, that time has not come yet. gatorcpa
First rule of vintage Omega on eBay is Don't Buy Vintage Omega on eBay. Second rule of vintage Omega on eBay is Don't Buy Vintage Omega on eBay.
Totally disagree. You have to know what you are doing, but even starting out, I've bought many fine Omegas on eBay: The last one was less than two years ago and cost less than $300. Buying on eBay is a minefield, but one that can be conquered with a lot of time and patience. If you don't have both, you will get burned. gatorcpa
eBay is the ultimate meritocracy as it's accessible and constantly monitored by essentially all collectors worldwide. It's the big leagues where, if you're an expert and decisive, uou can get the biggest scores. I'm by no stretch an expert but I know enough where I haven't been burned and have bought ok. That said, my best deals have come from physical auctions, pawn shops and some other deals I've stumbled on.
