Hi Omega community,

As a new member with a limited expertise on the subject, I request your support.

I consider buying this 166.009 Omega watch. Based on the ref, the watch might be manufactured in 1963. However, most of the similar model found on internet seems to be from 1966. Moreover, I do have some doubt on the dial & date window. The case back seems to have limited impact too.

What are you through on it? Can you tell me if it’s real? By the way, is there any website to identify the manufacturing period of an Omega watch based on its ref? Thanks

Looks legit to me. I just wish they hadn't done that to the case.

That case has seen the polish wheel a few times which is a shame but otherwise it looks pretty good. The caseback gasket looks very tired meaning the movement likely hasn't been serviced in years. Expect to have to put another couple of hundred into dealing with that. The serial suggests it is indeed from circa 1963.

That case isn't that bad, if this is a wearing-around watch for you. Collectors go nuts over the smallest things. I think it looks fine as long as you reserve some $500 for service, though of course your cost will vary by location and how much work is put into the watch.

It's interesting that some people can't simply give their own opinions without criticizing and editorializing about other people's opinions. Over time, this is the type of behavior that can cause negative feelings.

They editorialize about mine all the time. I let it go.

Besides, this is more than a "collector's forum". We get new people all the time. Shouldn't they have a balanced introduction?

Sure, and I think this can be done without making negative comments about collectors or the opinions of others in general. Express your opinion, and the newbies will have added diversity.

Currently, it seems that a significant fraction of your posts are intended to alienate those you consider to be "collectors". I don't see the upside, and it could affect how your posts are received. In the past you seemed to suggest that this mattered to you.
