First vintage Rolex!!

I was suppose to take a hiatus from buying/trading watches but instead I attended a watch meet up in NYC and caught the vintage bug. What set it off was a neo vintage Rolex as well as a vintage Tudor. After careful consideration, a lot of research and extensive searching, I have purchased my first vintage Rolex 1680 Red Sub! Couldn't be happier with how things turned out.

I definitely plan on getting a leather strap for it very close in color to the one Sergio posted but I would prefer a pin buckle style versus a nato strap. I find that nato straps just don't look good on my thin wrists. If anyone has any recommendations for leather straps feel free to introduce me!

This watch might be a lifer for me haha. Love your 5513! In the end I think I had to have a date function which is why I decided on a 1680 vs a 5513.

Can you tell I like red? Now the question is does this count as a double red? 😝 (Still unsure what I should do with the LMLE!)

Keep it for now. Who knows i may ditch mine one day to but it's not loosing value.

Check out bulang&sons for amazing quality leather straps for Vintage pieces.

Mine is a 5512 by the way.

This is a B&S strap on an E2. Normally I have one of these on the 5512 but I'm enjoying the Nato right now. ( also B&S)

Oops! 5512, my mistake. I didn't do much research on the 5512 but I see the difference is the text.

The B&S straps look great so far! I might just pick one of these up.

On a side note, how do you guys feel about changing the bezel insert on watches? I ask because as I was doing research on 1680's, I got to learn more about the inserts particularly the fading that can occur. I noticed people selling just the inserts that had ghost fades as well as a couple 1680's that already had a nicely faded insert. I was thinking about picking up a ghost insert for my 1680 to change up the look once in awhile. Is that a common or suggested thing to do? Obviously I don't want to risk damaging the watch every time I switch the insert. What do you guys think?

Congrats on a beautiful red sub. Changing the insert is pretty common but if u do it often enough, it might loosen the bezel. The one on urs is a mid font service replacement from the 80's. I would rather have a period correct mark III fat font fade or not. Here is a pic for ur reference.

The bottom one in the bezel is just like urs. There r many variations of mark 3 FF. Any one of those will fit nicely n compliments ur red sub.

Wow you have all the colors of the rainbow!! Would you part with any of them haha? How would you value a good conditioned proper FF bezel?

Not looking to sell at the moment. If i do, ill let u know. About price it depends really in the condition, shade n fatness. If look at the second one from top, its a mark I kissing 40 for late 60's. U should b looking at the lower ones as those r period correct for ur red sub. Expect to pay from 500 to 1k for a good one.
