This is my first post on this forum. I recently bought this vintage omega in Hong Kong for about 580 USD. The dial seems to be in good condition. There are two inscriptions on the back though. Attached are some close-up photos of the watch. What are your thoughts on it? Any information regarding production year? Thanks!
With that serial number, should have the coat hanger S. Others with more knowledge than me will be here soon, but I am sorry to say, that is a redial for sure. Can you return it? Movement doesn't look very clean either, but again, I am a noob. And that inscription is pretty primitive and takes away from the watch as well. Sorry to be so negative. McK
Movement is real and seems to be chronometer grade but looks not recently serviced. Sorry to say that dial is a 100% redone and wrong hands. Caseback inscription seems worn out or has been rubbed which I am not sure. Anyway, the inscription doesn't look nice. As you have already bought it, hope it keeps time.
If you look up the numbers (2846/2848) on the back, you'd see that this case should have a different movement. The 505 movement belongs to a Constellation. This is called a franken watch (that was put together with parts from different watch models). The dial was refinished as noted (often called a redial). These two problems are the biggest no-no for a vintage watch.
The OVD (which really sucks since the latest update) shows a 505 in a Seamaster but not in that reference and, I believe, the dial would also indicate that it's a chronometer. All of which seems to confirm what's already been posted.
