First vintage Omega (probably you have seen this title:)

Hello,

This is my first thread on this forum, I have read some basic topics yesterday and I'm impressed with knowledge gathered here.

I’m looking form my first vintage watch and I have chosen Omega because of choice, brand and just because I found them verry attractive.

In my collection there are some vintage watches that I have inherited from my grandfather (Delbana and some Poljots). They are serviced and in good condition but now I would like to buy something on my own.

I have found Omega Geneve locally and It is verry nice in my opinion, but my knowledge is verry limited, I have found the information that cal. 565 in this watch is verry reliable.

But of course I have some doubts:

First an main is that the watch is a bit to nice for the 52yo serial no. corresponds to 1970 If I checked correctly.

Second thing Is that I was not able to find watch with the same ref, year and cal. In the internet so I’m afraid of the franken watch.

Regarding Condition seller claims that “his” watchmaker cleaned the calibre, oiled it, and regulated the axis. Everything is supposed to work correctly including the date change mechanism. (I’m not if my translation of maintenance above is correct).

The price is ~720EUR and my main question is “Is it worth the money?”

Of course I will be grateful for all information about the watch, I would like to have the watch close to original.

I’m sorry for my English it is not my first language.

I'm probably going to open myself up to criticism here but from limited knowledge I'm going to say it's a relatively obvious re-dial. The font on the Omega is wrong to my eye. I'll let other more experienced members comment on the movement.

It all looks correct and original to me. The blue of the dial in the first picture has been enhanced. In real life it won’t be quite as vivid.

If that's a redial I'd like to know who did it 😉.
Looks to be a very nice example and totally original.
The only issue I see is the evidence of a worn rotor bearing/axle so bear that in mind as it will probably need remedial action.

As to price, it's irrelevant. One man's bargain is another man's stretch too far.
If you can afford it, buy it, if not, forget it.

👍

A lot of colour balancing going on there, but it looks like an honest watch.

My apologies, I was maybe looking for fault as it looked too good to be true for a piece of that age. That said, I agree in hindsight the pictures have been tweaked to add vividness.
I'll spend the rest of the day back in my box reading and trying to learn 🤦

No apologies necessary. Omega symbols and fonts changed markedly over time, and knowing when a "happy feet" Ω is correct or not just takes time.

After looking at watches for years you can often tell a redial almost immediately, but even the most experienced collectors still go through the steps to validate their initial "feeling".

Thank You for all opinions, in that case I think I will go for It.

Do you thing it needs an immidiate action, or can wait a month or three?

I was thinking about making a general service after some time of usage, do you recomend that?

I will for sure show you the watch on my photos when I will receive the parcel, probably will have some questions regarding everyday use.

It’s not likely going to run very well given the condition of the movement, so if you can tolerate that it’s not likely going to make much of a difference in what is needed in terms of parts when you get the service done.

In my experience, when the watch has been neglected to the stage you see here on the rotor wear, there are often many parts that require changing due to wear, in particular in the automatic winding system.

Hmm and isn't it strange that the "inside" of the watch is in bad condition regarding how the "outside" looks like?

Isn’t the OP version a radial sunburst dial?

Looks fine and original, mine says hello 😀

I also have the same dial/hand configuration in one of mine. It goes from dark blue to bright blue sunburst depending on the light.

yes, I’d be interested to hear other’s views to the contrary, but these sunburst dials I take to be unlikely candidates for redials
