Nice way to break into UG, for sure. But - *ahem* - that's an 'Evil Clapton.'

Indeed. Alternatively an "inverse" panda, though "Evil Clapton" is preferred.

    Congrats! I'm with you. Entry-level schmentry-level.

Interesting...Honestly I had not heard much about this brand until Hodinkee did a piece on them a few months ago, now I'm reading about them everywhere. Did UG copy the Speedmaster bezel?

Given the way the watch industry worked, a better way to put the question: Did UG and Omega source their bezels from the same supplier?
Back in the day, no one made a fetish of in-house the way it is done today.

In reality, the UG and OMega bezels are not interchangeable - UG is much smaller. Graphics are the same, suggesting a common source, but again, no one dissected fonts back then like we do today.

Back then UG was a really prestigious brand with no need of copying anything from anybody

If you going to be a bear, be a grizzly...

Hell of a way to dive headfirst into the deep end of the pool.

The real question is... did Omega throw a bezel on the mid-50's Rodania Geometer and call it a Speedmaster?

Since the romans, at least, that everybody copies everybody with very small improvements by each one

So true. That Geometer looks suspiciously like one of these...

I think it was Picasso who said something to the effect of "good artists copy, great artists steal".
    OP: beautiful watch - congrats!

Wow! The reverse panda is my favorite variant of the Tri-Compax as I love the 4 eyes. Its just a watch that not only screams vintage but there's just nothing else like it in a sports watch. The size took a little getting used to at first but after a couple days I actually preferred it. I also noticed yours has the ultra rare Spanish displays! Nice catch and big congrats...that's the perfect UG to own IMO. I actually prefer these to the Ninas and i believe they are more important ;)

That's an amazing watch. Where does that fit in the hierarchy of UG prices?
