First speedy!

Hello all! I just bought my first Speedmaster the other day, and am in love! Having spent so much time looking at high def macro shots, I was stunned at how incredibly small all of the details are!

I do have a question that might make your eyes roll out of your head at first glance… But I don’t believe I’ve seen an answer to my specific curiosity.

How long after exposure to water are the pushers safe to use? Is simply towel drying my watch enough? The scenarios in my mind are washing my hands at work before lunch, accidentally splashing a bit of water on the watch, and then wanting to time my lunch, so I’m back in time. Or wanting to time something outside in a light drizzle. What are your opinions on caution in those moments?

Two critical questions for you, which will help in answering your question: was this watch purchased new from an Authorized Dealer or Omega Boutique (or online directly from Omega)?...or...do you have documentation with the results of a recent pressure test?

Hey Jones! I did purchase it at an Omega Boutique, and it was purchased new.

Yay! And congrats! I have the same exact model and am totally comfortable with light rain/washing dishes/etc. It can handle a lot more than that. If you’re curious you can look up it’s metas certificate online (using the card provided), and verify the water test there.

Thanks mrbreen! I am very confident in the overall water resistance… If I’m anywhere near 50m below water, my watch will not be my biggest problem! Hahaha

my question is more specifically related to the pushers. I know that activating the pushers under water is a big no-no, but does the watch have to be bone dry, or can I use the pushers after light exposure to water: i.e. handwashing, light rain?

Your watch is made and tested to withstand 50m of hydrostatic pressure. A few incidental splashes should present no problem. While your watch is within its original warranty period you can go forward with an extra level of confidence. Regarding using the pushers while wet, dabbing the surface of the pusher assembly dry before actuating one would be a prudent thing to do.

Congratulations on your purchase, can't go wrong with a Speedy!
I wouldn't worry too much about water on a modern Speedmaster, unless you take it swimming in the pool, or in a shower, which I would strongly advise against. A little splash when washing your hands is nothing to worry about. There probably aren't too may scenarios where you absolutely must use the chrono after a particularly overzealous handwash! 😀

Now we’ve got the water resistance stuff out of the way, we need to talk about your thread title.

You say “first” Speedmaster…

You’ve bought possibly the best watch in the world. Now wear it every day, stay off internet watch sites, and keep your wallet in your pocket. Nobody needs more than one Speedmaster.

I wear my 3861/1861 Speedy taking showers on a regular basis after tennis games, and I'm happy to report I haven't run into any problems 👍

It’s great that some of ya’ll take your Speedy into the shower / pool, more power to you.
I’m not doubting it’s ability to keep water out, it’s just not something I would do personally.
If I do feel the urge, I have dives watches at the ready! 😀
