First post, but I have been lurking for some time and appreciate all of the knowledge to be found on this board (as well as speedmaster101). I've searched many threads but still have a question re: dial and hand lume. I've just purchased my first Speedmaster (1970 145.22-69 with pre-moon caseback) and was wondering what the group's thoughts were regarding the difference in the hand and dial lume. Is this within reason for the year and age? The watch was purchased from a reputable seller and board member and I really like the great condition of the case, dial, and bezel. Just the right amount of 'patina'. Thanks, I'm excited to be a member of this community.
Beautiful watch. The greenish marker lume and the yellow-brownish hand lume is quite typical on this vintage.
Very nice watch, congrats. The difference in lume color of dial and hands is fine, and in fact often argues against a total relume job. Enjoy it.
Agree with the other posters. Some 145022's unfortunately tend to turn green instead of yellow/brownish(which I prefer).
Lume colour is not a concern here, but the dial may be. Your pictures are not particularly clear but they all seem to show a non-step dial, which would be from model -74 and up, and would be incorrect for the -69.
It's a stepped dial, I'm wearing the watch now! One of the main reasons I wanted an earlier 145.022 was for the stepped dial. I think the 'pre-moon' case back is kind of neat too.
Do you have a clear pic of the steeped dial? Even current speedy/s have a slight step in the dial but it is not as pronounced as the ones from 60s and early 70s.
