This watch has a few issues, the crown, the case, the dial condition…. Still it‘ll be interesting to follow as normally they just sit and don’t sell.

Yea the dial is rough, i don’t believe the 18K case to be original either, every other legit example is 14K

How do marks like these occur?

By trying to remove the hands with a shovel?

I’m quite curious to see where this ends regardless. As you said @dsio , these don’t exactly pop up regularly…

Saw this today and was surprised at where it's currently at despite the transparent condition

Yea its still a Seamaster deluxe piepan which is a genuinely rare dial in an 18k case so there’s value in the parts for sure even in that condition, its just a lot of work to put it all right, or as right as it can be.

$3450 as a final price. Seems strong - even if rare, this is far less attractive than a standard pie-pan.

Dont follow these at all - but curious - any idea if these came with the faceted date window that was regularly seen in the Connie pie-pans or is the date window on this example original?

How about the hands? 😁
The date at three versions were all found with short hands, while every date at six version ever found in the wild has had long hands on it

I’ve been hoping to add a pie pan Seamaster to my collection for some time but the few that have popped up over the last couple of years (that I’ve tracked) have had condition issues. EBay seller Alex from Mexico auctioned this one late last year. 14k case and some blemishes on the dial. The winning bid was around $2500, and I suspect there may have been some shill bidding, as he later posted the watch on his IG page (claims the high bidder didn’t pay).

There’s another one out there.

Looks to be a complete package with a price to match. Although it might have been polished a bit.

I believe the seller of that watch posted about it on OF but I can’t find the thread. Nice watch but the price is a bit high IMO.

And it’s in an 18k case, not 14k. Been sitting there for a while…

So if that's two now in 18kt cases, from a total sample of what, 10 or 12, is the group think still that they are only correct in 14kt @dsio?

It just seems a strange idea to me that a 14kt case would be melted to replace it with an 18kt case

I very foolishly passed on this Seamaster pie pan with date at 6 o’clock a few years ago. It was also housed in an 18k gold case.

It’s possible for sure I’d be keen to see an extract from a SMPP with an 18k case as all of the extracts I’ve seen so far were 14K. It should be noted though that a number of them have been messed with in some way, at least 3 loose dials have been sold in recent years and one dial found its way into a gold-capped case and sold at auction.

That reminds me of this one that sold last year - Seamaster calendar pie pan dial in a ref 2943 Constellation case 😵‍💫

Yea that’s another one that is absolutely not right. Its also worth mentioning that the redial rate is high, more than half the date at six models have been refinished that I’ve seen because the 2757 has rubbish water resistance and the 2627 isn’t much better, yet almost all SMPPs were sent to hot humid climates around the world rather than watch friendly locations like the icy part of Finland.

“The icy part of Finland” is to watches what California is to cars? 😁
