First Seamaster, opinions from people who may own the current and previous model (blue) UPDATE

Hello! Hopefully this is an appropriate first post. I’m at a position in life to purchase my first Omega and I’m conflicted. I was pretty sure I wanted the previous model, (non wave) and have found several in decent shape from online retailers. I felt as though it was slightly better as a daily wearer since it was smaller, and a little more subtle. I have a 6.75 wrist.

The local AD has offered 20% off without me even asking on a new one. I’m more drawn to taking this deal since I would have the warranty, all the extras, etc but I think it might be slightly too big for me as a daily watch, and maybe a little too flashy.

I have watched every possible YouTube video on this, and weighed the pros and cons, but I wanted to hear from people who own both on which one they prefer, and why. I’ve attached a photo wearing a new one at the AD.
Thanks for any advice!

I’d get the new one. Specs-wise there’s no comparison.

The movement is much better, the dial is symmetrical, the warranty is longer, and the list goes on.

In terms of fit, the “female” endlinks on the new one give you a smaller effective lug to lug length. It may even wear better for smaller wrists, despite the marginally larger case size (and it really is marginal at 1mm wider).

In short, get the new one. No brainer.

I have the first generation and I was always very sceptical about the last one due to it being bigger and thicker.

But is really wears well. It is a big watch and looks like that on everyone's wrist I think but very "streamlined". I never liked the previous generation due to it missing the waves which are iconic imo.

The new METAS-certified movements are legit. That alone should push to the new version. However, watches are almost entirely an emotional decision. Go with your heart, not your head.

At this time, I'd go with the new one. Better movement, better bracelet and overall a better build quality.

I do have the older variant and for emotional reasons, I will never let it go, otherwise I probably would have upgraded. One thing I love about the older model is that smoooth gloss dial (I understand its not everyone's cup of tea).

Thank you all for the responses. I think I'm going back to the AD this weekend to pull the trigger on a new one.

Newer model is better watch but I prefer non wave glossy dial of prior model. I did add the newer clasp as the micro adjustment feature is too cool and used often.

Went ahead and got the new one over the weekend. I think it wears quite well despite my smaller wrist. Can’t believe my daily watch went from a 500 dollar Garmin to a 5000 dollar Omega ha.

Another fan of the prior generation with the glossy no waves dial. But you really couldn’t go wrong with either version. Wear yours in the best of health. Congrats!

What do you think is better about the build quality? I'd have expected that to be the same.
