Hi Guys, I've been lurking around this forum for a while now. I'm in the process of purchasing a 1964 Omega Seamaster Deville from Ebay and have some questions. The seller claimed that the dial has never been refinished and everything is original. I did some research and all parts matched with the description. However, my concern is that the word "Seamaster", particularly around the first "e" and "r" don't look quite correct to me. I'm hoping to get some help. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Below are some information regarding this watch: 1964 Reference # 166.020 Calibre 560 17 Jewels Serial: 21,XXX,XXX Here's the Ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/272129376050Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
Not the best photos to use. The lighting makes it look pretty overall and but does not light the dial so the markings can be easily viewed. Would be good to get a straight-on shot at a higher resolution for review.
That does look to be in really nice condition. The dial looks the same as mine (1969 vintage), which has been verified by several voices as being original. I like the style of indices on the OP's piece.
I am not saying that the dial was repainted but because I know this seller, he has a very good redialer doing the job for him and sometimes in the past, he forgot to mention that the dial was "professionally redone". He also has "friends" helping to jack up the price and his auctions never end cheap
Damn Hoi, if that's a redial it's a spectacular job. Didn't notice the lack of serifs on the font in the first picture.
Update: I found another watch for reference. This watch has the same font style used in the previous watch shown. Any thoughts? Are there variations to the font style used based on production year? Sorry for the noob questions.
It's not the same font as your first example. This one has serifs, like @hoipolloi 's example, on the "DE VILLE" text.
