It's posts like this that make me want to go out and get another Sub. I'm more of a GMT boy these days but the no-nonsense lines of the 5513 do make me want one

S-T-U-N-N-E-R!!! One of the best examples I've seen for a long time. Great pic as well. OMG my pocket is itching! Come on...the good oil...how did you track it down and capture it?

Having lusted for a classic 2 line Sub for a very long time, I finally decided on a nice and clean '68 (23***** series) 5513 Submariner. Its also my first Rolex, and I am still in awe over the classic lines of this watch. In short, now I see what all the fuss is about thumbsup.gif

I find it looks great on a bracelet, but equally at home on a nice NATO; leather or nylon. And just to prove it, I'll hit you all with an avalanche of pictures chuckle.gif

And wearing some excellent Crown and Buckle NATO straps:

Apologies for all the pictures, I do tend to get carried away!

Very nice 5513, original twinlock crown and what appears to be a superdome and period correct insert.

My only other observation is that it is a feet first dial and would have expected for a '68 to be meters first.
I know this was a transition period for Rolex from 1.9mil to 2.3 (could be later) where they were moving from meters first to feet (marketing decision)

Thank you! I did quite a bit if checking prior to pulling the trigger, and from what I found the 2.3-series is consistant with the transition to the "feet first". But as you noted, around that time it could go either way it seems!

Love this so much more than the current Submariner which has way too much bling factor.
