I am 43 years old and I never wore watches. I decided to embark on a journey to seek out the perfect watch for me. I started with various watches and I ended up shortlisting it to two. The Rolex Daytona and the Omega Speedmaster Professional. I decided on the Omega for various reasons: NASA History, Classic Chronograph and I loved the presentation box. I passed on the Rolex because the cost was almost 3x and the availability was limited (long wait-list). The decision then was which version of the Speedmaster Professional to get. So I looked at both of them online in detail. Read all the reviews. I also went to an Omega Authorized Dealer to see both up close and personal. At 6'1 190 LBS and 6.75" wrist, I was concerned the watch would be slightly too big. After seeing them and trying them, by initial thought was true, the solid back with the hesalite crystal was the only choice for me. The last part was, where to buy it and how much should I spend. I narrowed it down to CH Jewelers (San Jose, CA) and Jomashop (online). The OTD price online was $3,350 and the OTD price at the dealer was $5,725. I ended up negotiating with the dealer and got the watch OTD for $4,380 (+free VIP Valet Parking for life).
Oh boy, first watch and it's an Omega eh? Let the down fall begin, meaning I predict more watches to come and whatever money you have will be going Good luck and welcome aboard!
You and me both made the very same purchase for our first "good" watch. I recently purchased an Omega Speedy Pro Moon Watch and was debating on a Jomashop purchase or one from an AD. I wound up getting a really great deal from Govberg. I purchased over the phone and was able to negotiate a very fair price + free shipping and no tax. Welcome to the Omega world. I've had my speedy all of a month and I'm already thirsty for my next piece. I'm thinking the new Ploprof in Titanium. It's so quirky and cool. Maybe a Seamaster 300 in two tone steel and rose gold on the leater strap. Decisions Decisions!!!
Congratulations and nice work putting together the photo collage. I recently purchased my first Speedy Pro and continue to fall deeper and deeper in love the more I wear it.
Wow, San Jose is a busy enough place now that valet parking is worth negotiating for? What happened to all the orchards? (Welcome to the forum, Carlos!)
The Westfield Valley Mall and Santana Row are mostly high end shopping. It is probably the largest shopping area in the entire San Francisco Bay...and it is super busy. Parking is always a mess. So they have VIP Valet parking. They offered that after the sale as a perk. They didn't need to say that...but they did.
Congrats and welcome. My first Omega watch was a Speedy 3572. Almost 5 years ago. You have many more Speedmasters to purchase.
As a new member of the Speedy club myself - welcome aboard! Don't for get to post wrist shots on Tuesday
