    Hi all

    I've just joined the forum as after a bit of shopping around, and discounting the Tag Heuer Carrera, I'm just about to invest in my first Omega watch. I'm torn between two Speedmaster models, so i'm hoping for some good advice from you knowledgeable folks please :)

    I like the look of both equally, and price isn't a deciding factor, so some guidance on which is the higher quality timepiece, and which will hold it's value better would be greatly appreciated.

    The two models in question are;

    Steel on Steel Speedmaster Professional "Moonwatch" - 3570.50.00

    Steel on Steel Speedmaster Date - 323.30.40.40.06.001
    http://www.omegawatches.com/gents/speedmaster/date/32330404006001

    I'm aware that the Moonwatch is a mechanical movement whereas the Date is an auto, but what other differences should I look out for?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Both are solid watches. The 3570 is a manual winding caliber 1861 based on a Lemania movement and has been used by Omega in one form or another for decades. The 323.30 is an automatic 3304 based on the Valjoux 7753, another rock solid caliber that's been around since the mid 70's. Your call will end up being based on what looks the best because either is a solid watch.

    The Moonwatch IMO is the one to go for. Although both watches are great looking, the moonwatch is an iconic watch most famous because of what it is, and more sort after, and therefore will hold its value better. Ok you have to wind it up every day, but hey, gives you an excuse to look at your watch while doing it !. :)

    3570.50 is the one to go for, if you buy a Porsche, you want the 911, not the Boxster, similarly with a Speedmaster, the Professional moonwatch is the model you want from now till forever.

    Great analogy with Porsche. I would love to trade my Cayenne in on a 911. I did not make same mistake twice, and bought the 3572.50.

    I know what you mean, the 3572.50 is an excellent choice, as is the Gemini IV LE (blue panda dial), and the 35th Apollo XI was pretty special too... and the Snoopy, got to love snoopy!

    My favorite is the 3211 auto - particularly the .31 dial. Certainly not a purists choice.
