    Hello,

My name is Neil and I am new to the forums so I hope I have this in the right place.

I have never owned and expensive watch but always wanted to and have always liked the look of Omega watches. I have managed to save £2500 and I am looking for help and advice in purchasing my first Omega. What would your recommendations/advice be for my first purchase?

I can't say, if you had an avatar it would help me think.

If you like dive watches, SMPc. If you like chronos, Speedmaster. Can't go wrong with either.

    Welcome Neil
In addition to adding an avatar, perhaps you could let us know a little it more about what your preferences are. Vintage? Dress watch? Sport watch?

I would suggest that you spend some time going through the WRUW thread to see what catches your eye. Also, you might want to take a look at some of the watches listed for sale here in the forum. Most of all, do your due diligence and remember to 'buy the seller' in addition to their offering

    Hi,

Ok I have added an avatar. My preference would be Sport and then Dress. I will have a look at the WRUW thread.
    Thank you for the replies.

Neil, welcome! this one fits your sport criteria and will be a great match to your shoes! :)

Edit: @squitty , I just realized you also have a budget in mind and my suggestion is a bit off, but hey! you can always aim higher!

    ;)

New or used? Way more options in your price point with used.

Would be a bit reluctant to buy used as I don't know a lot about buying used.

Your'e much better off buying used in my opinion. let someone else take the hit. If you buy on here its virtually worry free and you know you are dealing with decent people.

Well its a good thing you found this site. :)

No doubt there are some pros and cons of buying used. Modern watches purchased new will take about a 30-40% hit once sold, should you ever need to sell. But at your price point I think you have limited options for a NEW sports Omega model.

If you have the stomach for it and the patience, I cannot recommend buying vintage enough (or at least, used / pre-depreciated!). If you've saved up for your first watch, you won't quite know what it's like to wear it until it's been on your wrist for a few months / a year. If/when the time comes to make a change, it's best not to take the depreciation hit, and in the case of vintage - it may have even appreciated. Don't make the same mistake I did! ;)

Agree. buying used with £2.5k will open up your options no end and and you should always get your money back if you sell.... As long as you buy well

This is a very good point.

The safe bet is a used Speedmaster Professional. :)

I can see where you are all coming from. I think I need to do a lot more homework before entering into the used watch market.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think the best value in vintage watches right now are Speedmasters Professional 145.022-7x, with '80s 145.022s right behind. Right in his price range, a great way to get started. Of course, then he'll be addicted ;)
