June 6, 2018 American physician Serena Aunon-Chancellor flew as Flight engineer on Soyuz MS-09 to the ISS... Her first spaceflight mission would last almost 200 days... 196 days 17 hours 50 minutes to be exact ! Could this two-tone chronograph, she was wearing, be an Omega SeaMaster Professional Chronometer 300m ? I believe we see the external Helium Escape Valve at 10 o'clock typical for these Omega diving watches If so, it would be the first Seamaster I see going up to Low Earth Orbit ! . .
Here's something to pursue and investigate further... A lot of astronauts train as aquanauts in the NEEMO project: NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations to work & live in an undersea habitat off the coast of Key Largo - Florida. We already knew that Canadian astronaut Dafydd Williams used his Rolex SeaDweller on NEEMO 9 (2006) and wore the same Rolex in space on STS-118 shuttle Endeavour in 2007... I hoped to find the Omega Seamaster at the wrist of American flight surgeon / astronaut Serena Aunon-Chancellor as she was a member of NEEMO16 (2012) and NEEMO 20 (2015) but she wore a Timex Ironman, a watch she also wore in space ! .
Are these all Titanium case... It might have been a rose gold version ? Anyway a 2017 or 2018 Seamaster.
The Space Watches group listed it as: Seamaster 2296 8000... MoonwatchUniverse only noticed the external Helium Escape Valve in the NASA photos... but the Omega museum is on to it as well, so hoping to hear more soon .
SpeedyPhill, more than any other civilian, you deserve a ride to the ISS. Seriously. The stuff you find blows me away. I have learned so much from you about space and watches. If life was fair, you'd be floating in zero gravity. Thanks for sharing and caring.
I got a tip via MoonwatchUniverse of the fact that NASA astronaut Mark Kelly did a favor for a friend by wearing this friend's Omega Seamaster co-axial chronometer on space shuttle Discovery STS-124 in May-June 2008... What a cool thing to do... so ten years earlier then the Omega Seamaster Professional 300m of flight-surgeon Serena Aunón-Chancellor, which probably remains the first Seamaster flown on a Soyuz mission ( 196 days on MS-09 between June & December 2018). Anyway interesting facts to be included in the upcoming " Seamaster Only " book... . (Photo: NASA)
I hadn't heard about the Seamaster Only volume. Exciting news - I'm keenly anticipating its publication.
Last time I saw & spoke both authors, they mentioned that " Seamaster Only " is in the works... focusing on Seamaster toolwatches !
