Hello. This is my first post here. I've finally decided on my first Omega. I'm planning to purchase a quartz movement Seamaster. I'm torn between new or used. Used will be cheaper but will probably require service and or parts replacements. New is,well,new-higher price, but no headaches or surprises-(hopefully). Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
Welcome to the Forum. Don't discount the mechanical movements. My first Omega was acquired early in my watch collecting endeavors, A '50s vintage Constellation, once gathered in and serviced, it never looked back.
Quartz watches came out in the late sixties/seventies they were quite popular but manufacturers invented mechanical watches which made Quartz obsolete, before these technologies wrist worn sun dials were all the rage.
I have several Omega quartz watches - most bought used in excellent condition and they have never needed service. I don't wwear them much any more as I have replaced them with automatic movements.
I was looking at 2221.80.00. I didn't know they were discontinued. I've 5 automatic watches now. I just want a quartz. And being a bit less costly,I can devote the $$ for more firearms.
I have an omega megaquartz which is a quartz watch and its mega. I love it. I was told it is a bugger to service because if it broke then getting the parts would be a bugger. If it breaks down its totaly buggered. I am not sure if this is the case because it works fine but it might be something to take into consideration.
look through the WRUW thread. There's (not) a lot of quartz there. Maybe you'll find some new inspiration!
That is at least a noble cause to save money for. Perhaps a Krieghoff or a Silver Seitz. Maybe even a Beretta?
That was my first higher end watch, given to me for my 40th birthday. It's a great piece. You should definitely be able to get one on the used market at a very welcoming price. Mine says 'hi' in advance:
Just saw that there are about 3 for sale right now via Watchrecon. They were actually priced a bit higher than I expected, tbh. Pretty funny that there were so many on the front page the minute I logged on, maybe there's about to be a big rush on them, lol.
I think they always will in some models, I mean the X-33 Gen 3 and Z-33 Spacemaster were only recently released
it's about as good as they get for quartz.. http://www.omegawatches.com/collection/speedmaster/spacemaster-z-33/presentation/skywalker-x33
