    Hi guys,

Any idea if it's possible to get a sapphire case back for the FOIS?

    Thanks,
    Conor

I believe that the ordinary back from af sapphire backed Speedmaster should fit just fine.
Find someone with an Omega account to order it, or try ordering through an Omega AD.

The movement is the same one (has the same level of decoration) as something like 3570?

Decoration is the same, but you will see the plastic "lever" (not sure what is the correct term) that is made of metal for the open casebacks.

    Interesting - thanks billyblue.

My main watch is a Heuer Carrera with a Lemania 5100 movement so it seems I'm a man who likes plastic components! :)

You know, for me, it's 95% down to the straight lugs and the symmetry they afford the watch.

I agree, I feel that the straight lugs help to make the dial and bezel more prominent and balanced than the twisted lugs and crown guards of the Professional case.

Probably a caseback from a 3572 will work; there are also aftermarket casebacks as well. I had sapphire casebacks from Custom Watch Concepts and they are nice.

Have someone successfully put an OEM Omega sapphire caseback in the FOIS?

Even if the see thru caseback fits, you need a metal ring to push back the movement. Not sure the term for it. Without it, the movement will have free play. That's what i experience when i wanted to convert my speed pro. So i think it is the same for the FOIS.

Yes that's a ring that would be required as well, the sapphire caseback would come with it

I think the ring needs to be purchased separately. It certainly did not come with my caseback. I bought my caseback sealed in original omega packaging.

Well mine came with the ring. The rings come in different sizes from what I recall. I have also heard of Thomas sending another ring no charge if one had the wrong size.

I think the confusion here is that the Thomas ones are aftermarket and come with the ring, it sounds like teojjsg is talking about the OEM sapphire back, presumaly from the sapphire sandwich which clearly doesn't come with a spacer ring. I personally don't much care for the rounded shoulder profile on Thomas's backs, though they do allow you to show off the movement on older models which didn't originally have the option.

Would prefer the original / OEM Omega version from a sapphire sandwich 3573 or similar (3572, 3576), but an option could be the Thomas Priek ones.

Yet no one had confirmed if the caseback size, thread etc is the same on the FOIS as in the regular 42mm Speedmaster or a different one would be needed. Can anyone confirm this?

You would need someone to either try it directly or at least measure the thread pitch and diameter on both case backs to be sure.

Thanks Al ! Would be awesome if someone with both, an FOIS and a 3572 / 3573 / 3576 etc could do the swap and report if it works.

Can you confirm the part number of the saphhire casebacks and the spacer needed (which as said above does not comes with the new sapphire caseback)

    Thanks
