Hi. I currently own an Omega Speedmaster 42 mm and am considering buying the First Omega in Space (FOIS) model. I have been trying to find the lug to lug distance of the FOIS since that is the dimension I'm really looking to reduce, but have not been able to find it listed anywhere. I found this picture with detail measurements of the standard Speedy:

Which saids the lug to lug size of the regular Speedy is 48mm. I measured my Speedy with a digital caliper and measured 47.4 mm:

so pretty consistent to measurement on the diagram. Can anyone with an FOIS measure its lug to lug size to see how does it compares to the regular 42mm Speedmaster?

    Thanks,

    Francisco

Thanks. Do you think the regular Speedy looks too big on my wrist? The standard Speedmaster bracelet does poke out on the lug connecting piece do to its style but could perhaps replace the 1498/840 bracelet with a 1479/812 which has a different end link with adjustable angle:

This is how watch looks on my wrist with leather bands:

Thanks! Guess FOIS not as small as I thought, if that is the case will then keep mine and replace stainless steel band instead

Its only the design of the FOIS case which makes it appear smaller. I think the Speedy looks fine on the straps

Correct me if I am wrong, but as far as I know the dial size, bezel size and lug to lug distance has not changed since the early speedmasters of which FOIS is a copy. They added 2mm of extra material on the side with the chrono pushers so these are recessed and somewhat protected. For this reason the 42mm speedmasters wear like a 40mm watch (for example, compare to role Explorer II which is also 42mm).

I dont know about the Rolex Explorer 2, but on my Submariner Date lug to lug is 47mm, so slightly smaller than Full size Speedmaster:

Does this wrist make my watch look big? :p What strap should I wear?

Okay, enough ball busting. I tell everyone that asks if a watch looks too big that if they're asking the question they already know the answer is yes, that it is too big, but they're in some form of denial. It's okay though - all watch nuts live in a different universe than normal people anyway. Vintage loons tell other birds of that feather about how great it is to have a solid gold __________ (fill in expensive brand like AP, JLC, etc.) with an in-house caliber, and that they could own 3 or 4 vintage __________s for the price of one modern _________. We're all whack jobs to normal people so just go with it. Sell the Moonwatch and you'll have money left over after rebuying a Speedmaster Reduced. There's no shame in liking the Reduced. I prefer them myself. Never found a regular Speedmaster I liked on my wrist.
