An update. Ended up with this GX6279 with a super cool engraved 14k bezel. It has a low mileage 500 in it, so it got a full service and I swapped the fire damaged dial over. Got it running in tip top shape (for as good as a 500 can be anyway). I have been wearing this all weekend its been great. The dial gives Jurassic fossil vibes.

service shots

The left over parts. The bad redial from the GX6279. as well as the junk case, and worn out 500 from the fire damage dial's GX6267 watch. These will likely end up on ebay.

More dial macros. There is such lovely patina on the gold arabics and arrow indices. Original radium lume plots are still there and yes they are quite warm according to my geiger counter.

Crown got a new rubber gasket and was loctite blue'd back. Original blue hairspring is in great shape. Beat error corrected by rotating the hairspring collet on the staff about one degree.

Nice to see someone else who loves rat watches.

I need to find a case and dial for my 501 sometime.

Did you change the rotor pinion?

I didnt! This rotor pinion is super tight with no noticeable deflection. The only corrections i made was slightly closing up the mainplate barrel arbor hole with a staking set. Still plenty of meat there before a bushing would be warranted. Bridge side had acceptable sideshake.

Interesting - this looks like very "fresh" wear...

This is from the fire damaged dial. I didnt use these parts. That rotor is VERY loose and would need one for sure. Ill be sure to add that note to the description when I sell the movement on ebay. Arbor holes are also worn.
