Fingernail Polish to Protect Clasps?

Years ago a collector told me that he paints a thin coat of clear fingernail polish on his bracelet clasps and the backside of lugs for protection.

I never did it, but the bracelet is so nice on my 145.012-67, that I tried it out. Can't tell that it is on there, and a few dabs of a cotton swab with acetone and it is gone.

Does anyone else do this? Any negative side effects that I am missing?

I just use one of these. You can get them cheap at any veterinarian supply house.

So I guess the answer is no ::facepalm1::

Did I say I tried it??? Um, actually...I was thinking of trying it. Yeah, yeah...just thinking of trying it.

So glad I didn't, otherwise I would be banished to WUS for at least two weeks.

    Nice try.

Of course, you could always use the method some of us have adopted:

Sadly, that OP cried, deleted his posts, and ran back to WUS. Some of them are quoted though.

I use the clear door edge guard film that is applied to the edge of car doors. It works great on flat clasps.

A few seconds on a buffer (satin in the middle, polished on the edges) and that will look like new. Okay, not new, but well-cared for.

Im not a fan of bracelets due to the look, weight & inevitable ugly scratches. So when i got a watch with bracelet, i immediately swap it for hirsch strap with rubber lining on inner side, leather on the outer.

I travel a lot to the tropics. The inner rubber lining is a blessing since i can just wipe off the sweat, which would ruin leather. So no more worry about bracelet scratch. Time comes when the strap gone thru wear & tear, i just replace with new one, while keeping the original bracelet pristine.

I haven't tried anything like it because I am not concerned about normal wear and minor scratches on the clasp of my ss bracelets so much.... (I just use a green Scotch Brite pad and Cape Cod cloth to maintain my ss bracelets.) If you are a collector and sell or trade your watches frequently, your concerns would probably be different....
