    Hi!
I posted a while a go requesting help with judging a watch. Sadly I didn't win it at the auction and I have now decided to increase my budget. But I still don't want to buy a bad or over priced watch.

I am still a novice regarding watches and judging speedmasters. If you have any questions regarding classic mens shoes I am happy to answer. Just send me a PM!

The two watches I am looking at right now is:
    1. https://www.chrono24.se/omega/omega-speedmaster-ref-105012-66--id6254703.htm
As far as I can see the hands are the only thing that is wrong with it.

Can't see anything wrong with it. Except some scuff marks and damaged hands. According to the seller it's newly served.

Since both watches are from Chrono24 I guess they are a little bit overpriced. If you can help me with the price model as well it would be great.

Thanks in advance for helping me with all my questions and having the patience for it.

    Jackee, welcome

May I suggest you in fact do open a fresh thread for each watch. In that thread place a photo of the watch as well as the link.
Then give us reasons why you like it, why you don't.

Multiple watch enquiries in one thread is confusing.

Threads without pictures loose 90% of the people who you actually need to see the watch to help you - clicking on an outside link means losing this page, having to go back and forth, wondering which watch was it actually, because you have put two links in....you see what I mean.

Remember people here are often totally over busy in real life, and sneaking off to OF while wife isn't looking or surreptitiously glancing at the phone under the table while meeting with a bank so make it real easy for them. Ok. Me.

It's easier for me to write all this than to click and juggle those links.

Thank you Spacefruit for you advice. I have therefor decided to keep this thread for these two watches and for any future ones I will create new threads. I have also added pictures of the watches.

    My personal opinion:

Both watches do not look attractive to me at all.
I know the straight lugged Speedys have become quite rare and sought after,
though for me it's no reason to spend that kind of money on a watch that isn't nice to look at.
Even if the price is ok for the sum of it's parts... I still think that if you want to wear the Speedy you are buying - rather wait for a nicer example.

Looking at those hands and flaky lumed dials would not give me any pleasure. No matter how rare.

My advice is "buy neither" :)

The case of the first is way too over polished IMO. And from the second one, I don't like the dial/hands lume. It's not really attractive. So from my side, both wouldn't be a runner...

    A couple of Chrono24 classics!

(It's where unsold watches go to languish)

Thank you both for your comments. :) I haven't decided what to do yet. I have asked for more pictures from both the sellers and one of them have replied. The only thing that I hesitate regarding this watch is the price and the dent in the bezel.

Does the dial really speak to you?

It's not like I want to scratch my eyes out when I see it. But at the same time I don't jump of joy when I see it. So I guess it's somewhere there in between. However I like how the watch looks in the wrist shot and at the same time it doesn't look as good on the close ups.

The first one is one of the worst cases of overpolishing I can remember seeing on a Speedmaster. The second one looks to have had all of its dial lume scraped off, which is awful when in the hand, it is like the character of the watch has been removed in one foul swoop. I speak from experience as the first Speedmaster I bought, a 145.012, had this problem and within a very short space of time I knew it had to go. Couldn't stand looking at the bloody thing actually.

I recommend avoid both, keep looking and keep asking if you are not sure. With the prices of them these days any mistake could prove to be a very expensive one and as they all look quite similar to one another the devil is in the detail.

So true. I just remembered how it was when I was going to buy my first pair of quality shoes. I was very close to buy some pair of shoes that I would never have used for more then a half of a season.

I know when I see a watch that I really like. The only problem is then how to value the watch. Even with the amazing price chart from speedmaster101 it's hard to give a correct value since I haven't followed the market for so long. I am a perfectionist and doesn't want to pay more then necessary for anything. I usually research for weeks before I buy things. However it's much harder to transfer it to the vintage watch market. Since the best watches will go faster then I have time to do the research and make up my mind.

I guess I will have to go with my gut feeling and accept I may pay a overprice for a watch that I really like.

    Thanks for reminding me!

I bought this 2998-5 full setup beauty from Brandizzi 2 years ago. Very easy, straight forward to deal with.

Just wait and buy one from a member here...we don't sell shit, and if something slips through the cracks, it gets called out in a flash if it isn't described adequately.

If you are spending the coin, just buy from OF...one will pop up.
