I bought a DSLR many years ago but quickly got annoyed with trying to figure out settings and lighting. Shortly after this, I got an iPhone 4S and with the inbuilt camera being as good as it was, and the sheer convenience of it, I never looked at my DSLR again. Until now...

Long way to go but I quite liked this shot.

That's what I don't like of the DSOM...they collect dust particles between the bezel and the crystal.

Happens to all Speedmaster professionals. Easily cleaned though. But with that high of a macro shot, everything is visible.

Yup! All of mine have it and being Dubai with all the sand around, it's only ever clean for a second...

    Very nice shots!

I imagine one of the most difficult aspects of taking photos like these is getting the camera on a stable platform so that you only have to worry about the subject moving around, and not both the camera and the subject. I've thought about getting some watch shots with a 100mm macro lens that I own, but first I have to figure out how to get the camera fixed in place. I suppose I'll try using a tripod first.

Don't bother with a tripod.. Just use a bean bag or cushion and use a slow appature. You get the same result as the subject is still !

Given the settings are correct, less motion + more light = better photos. Also, post processing helps a great deal. I know some people enjoy bokeh, but sometimes I prefer an image cropped to show finer details of the in-focus area.

One technique I use to help with this problem is shooting in burst mode. With enough shots you're bound to get at least one pic nice and crisp. Also helps to if you turn the AF points to a single point to get more control over focal plane. Also helps to have an optically stabilized lens.

Been a while since I've updated this thread but here are a couple of recent pictures. Watches might convert me on this whole pictures thing.
