FINALLY! Omega Moonwatch Apollo 11 50th Anniversary LE

The Omega Moonwatch 50th anniversary was the watch I missed out on. I’ve bought 6 Omegas from my AD and there was a particularly helpful member of staff who would always give me the heads up on new releases and special editions. I came to rely on this so stopped looking online and always waited for news from her. Unbeknownst to me, she left there last year and I was never told about the Moonwatch Apollo 11 50.

When I saw a photo I fell in love instantly and of course it was sold out everywhere. I’ve been in touch with OBs, looked on EBay, Chrono..everywhere and just couldn’t find the one for me. Of course they demand a premium now but I wasn’t prepared to pay £1600 extra if the watch wasn’t fully stickered and completely unworn.

Last week, thanks to @Japanred I finally got my hands on it. Still in its casket.

As current owners know, the bracelet is unbelievable: lightweight, comfortable and rather shiny. The face might be the nicest face I’ve seen on a watch in person. The way the light hits the bezel, gold hands and index markers is a thing of beauty. I’m besotted. So pleased to finally own it. The only issue is I can only wear it in the house until the end of lockdown as there aren’t any jewellers open to remove a link from the bracelet. All part of the fun!

Awesome - glad you found the advert! It’s a great watch. Still love mine. Enjoy, and in the interim while you wait for the bracelet to be sized order yourself a nice brown leather strap. It’s a great combo!

Great to meet you in person mate. Thanks for a nice easy transaction (even if we were both pretty nervous about doing the deal in a car park in the dark) 😁

Enjoy the watch. Best wishes, Rob

A pleasure my friend. Really good to meet you. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience transaction wise. Wouldn’t hesitate to do business with you again in future. All the best, Adam

Thank you for the link to the advert. A brown leather strap sounds good. Would you be kind enough to post a photo of what yours looks like on one?

Really pleased for you. On another note, I hope you had words with the AD! Just because a member of staff leaves, they shouldn't forget what a valued customer you are to the store.

Thanks Nick. I think they have good and bad eggs at this particular AD. I have been speaking with their manager, who is lovely, as I’m on the waiting list for the Snoopy.

i made my first purchase from an OB last week and I have to say, I’ve never felt more looked after, They offered me the Bond 50 LE despite only speaking with them a few times: They sent me a replacement clasp that I needed for free for a watch not purchased from there (worth £170), they also sent me an Omega card holder and will be sending a watch care kit when they are open again (closed due to lockdown).

I want to stick with my AD as I try to be loyal but it felt fantastic to buy directly from Omega which I think I will continue to do going forward.

The new bracelet looks incredible! Hopefully we’ll continue to see more of it in future releases.

Congratulations. Great looking watch and bracelet. The description of your transaction, however,..."even if we were both pretty nervous about doing the deal in a car park in the dark" sounds like a drug deal gone bad.

Wear in good health always.

Haha. We are based at opposite ends of the country. Adam quite rightly wasn’t comfortable with sending all the money without seeing it, I wasn’t able to source insurance to post It anyway. The only option was for us to each drive halfway and meet in the middle. Unfortunately with other commitments we could only do this after work one evening.

We had reassured each other somewhat by FaceTiming beforehand, where I’d shown Adam the watch and associated paraphernalia. And we also swapped driving licences.

I guess you have to have some faith in the person at the other end of the deal whenever making a private sale/purchase...

Did Adam hand over a brown envelope filled with used readies?

It was a little more sophisticated than that!

I’ve seen online that when preordering A11 50 a gift pack was given out. I’ve seen the gold pin badge, gold pen and giant memory stick. Was anything else given out..does anyone have any spare? 😁

I didn’t get anything on top. Mine was from an AD though and not a boutique. I did ask for one of the gold men but they said they had to go back to omega....

It's location specific, not driven by Omega. I got the gold pen, pin, a charging pack and the bottle of champagne from the St Louis Boutique. Other US boutiques gave zilch.

Beautiful watch!! Definitely on my list. Just stunning. You mind me asking what the advertised price was on the ad?
